How To Write An Impressive Cover Letter

Are you applying for your dream job? If so, the first thing you have to figure out is how to make your potential employer impress on you. As the potential employer does not know you, how to do such a thing? Create the most impressive cover letter!

A cover letter is a letter used for applying for any job title. It contains the purpose of writing, a few relevant experiences and skills, and a request on the opportunity in which you personally meet the requirements.

A good and impressive cover letter should not be more than one page long and consist of 3 to 4 paragraphs. Each paragraph focuses on different information.

Paragraph 1

In this paragraph, you have to express why you are writing the letter. Set the point of contact, i.e. where you find the ads, and what position is offered. You also have to explain a brief about yourself.

Paragraphs 2 and/or 3

This part is extremely important for the employer to consider you. In this paragraph, you have to:

  1. Highlight a few of the most outstanding points of your resume.
  2. Increase the higher potential for you to consider by mentioning the points indicating you are the right person for the position they are offering.
  3.  State your background of study, experiences, and skills that meet the requirements. Elaborate them.

Paragraph 3 (or 4) - closing paragraph

This is also important to impress your potential employer. Politely request an interview at the employer's convenience. You should also indicate the supporting documents along with the email in a separate part of the cover letter, including a portfolio and such a thing. Besides, you have to thank the reader for their consideration and state that you look forward to hearing from them.

When you are writing an impressive cover letter, here are things you have to pay attention at:

  • Do not exceed more than one page long.
  • Address the letter to the right person instead of simply saying "Dear Sir/Madam". If you are not sure who is the right person, you'd better contact the employer and ask them politely.
  • Start the cover letter by saying where you found the job from.
  • End the cover letter by expressing that you are looking forward to an interview.
  • The cover letter must be professional, warm, and friendly.
  • It must be short to the point but interesting. Never repeat everything you state in your CV.
  • Use natural language and avoid such expressions as "aforementioned."
  • Positive words and phrases should be used in a cover letter, such as "I have", "I can", or "I am able to"
  • Do not use such words as weakening your message, for example "fairly experienced: or "some knowledge".
  • Never start every sentence or paragraph with "I".
  • Use a formal font, such as Calibri, Georgia, Arial, or Times New Roman.
  • Provide plenty of spaces around the edges of the page and clear space between each paragraph or section.
